Bor Alurin is a character in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.

About Bor[]

Bor Alurin is a Trantorian psychologist and a founding mentalic pioneer of the Second Foundation. A kind-faced and strong-jawed man whose myopic, studious appearance masked a powerful mind, Bor Alurin had always felt a sense of profound difference from those around him but never understood its source. His life was irrevocably changed when he was psychically located and contacted by Wanda Seldon and Stettin Palver in a bustling commercial area of Trantor's Ery Sector. He immediately responded to their mentalic summons, a moment that provided him with the answer to his lifelong feeling of isolation. As a professional psychologist, he was uniquely positioned to understand the significance of his abilities and eagerly agreed to join Hari Seldon's Psychohistory Project, abandoning his current practice without hesitation. His recruitment served as the critical proof of concept for Seldon, demonstrating that other mentalics could be found and gathered. Alurin became one of the very first recruits to Seldon's planned Second Foundation.

Following the exile of the Encyclopedia Project to Terminus, Bor Alurin was among the key mentalics who relocated to the planet. On Terminus, he operated under the public guise of an encyclopedist while working to establish the covert Second Foundation. His most famous and influential role was as a teacher and mentor to the young Salvor Hardin. Alurin recognized Hardin's latent political genius and intuitive understanding of the Seldon Plan, tutoring him in the principles of psychohistory and pragmatic statecraft. This mentorship was directly responsible for shaping Hardin into the visionary leader who would successfully navigate Terminus through the First Seldon Crisis, famously resolving the conflict with the Kingdom of Anacreon through a "show of force" that cemented the Foundation's future trajectory. Beyond tutoring Hardin, Alurin's work was vital in establishing the Second Foundation's early protocols and ensuring its survival, helping to shape it into the silent guardians of the Seldon Plan.
