Corwin Attlebish is a character in Isaac Asimov's Robot series.

About Corwin[]

Corwin Attlebish is the Deputy Director of Security for the planet Solaria. A tall, well-built, and tanned Spacer with light brown eyes and a strong, square jaw, Corwin Attlebish physically embodied the archetypal image of a Spacer that was common on Earth. As the deputy to Hannis Gruer, he assumed the role of Acting Director of Security following Gruer's poisoning. In stark contrast to his predecessor, Attlebish was dismissive of the investigation and the notion of a larger conspiracy.

He held a deep-seated contempt for Earth and its inhabitants, which was immediately apparent in his condescending and hostile demeanor during his first visual interview with Elijah Baley. Attlebish openly declared that the case was simple—Gladia Delmarre was the obvious culprit—and that Baley's services were no longer required, bluntly ordering the Earthman to return home. This provoked a fierce and calculated retaliation from Baley, who, leveraging the implied threat of Aurora's military power through the presence of R. Daneel Olivaw, bluffed his way into seizing control of the investigation.

Faced with the potential for interstellar incident, Attlebish capitulated, granting Baley full authorization to conduct his inquiry, including the unprecedented right to demand personal, face-to-face interviews with any Solarian. Though resentful and skeptical, Attlebish remained a part of the investigation, presiding over the final meeting where Baley revealed the true culprit. His initial obstructionism and subsequent forced cooperation highlighted the political tensions within Solaria and the planet's vulnerability to pressure from the more powerful Outer Worlds.
