Asimov

Daneel Giskard Baley, commonly known as D.G., is the main character of Isaac Asimov's science-fiction novel Robots and Empire.

About Daneel[]

Daneel Giskard Baley, is a Settler, the captain of a Settler ship, and a direct descendant of Elijah Baley. A bearded, pragmatic, and courageous leader, D.G. is characterized by his deep reverence for his ancestor and a Settler's disdain for Spacer reliance on robots, though he demonstrates a complex understanding of their uses. His personal possession of a photocube containing images of six different women hints at a sentimental side beneath his mercenary exterior. He masterminded the mission to the abandoned planet Solaria, insisting on bringing the Auroran Spacer Gladia Delmarre and her robots, R. Daneel Olivaw and R. Giskard Reventlov, as essential components of the plan. His leadership was crucial in surviving the planetary dangers, including an attack by the humanoid robot Landaree, and in capturing a vital Solarian Nuclear Intensifier.

Following the successful mission, he brought Gladia to his homeworld, Baleyworld, where he acted as her protector and guide during her influential public address. He later escorted her to Earth under official pressure from Aurora. On Earth, he continued his protective role when a humanoid robot attempted to assassinate Gladia. D.G. participated in the final confrontation at Three Mile Island, where he assisted in apprehending the conspirators Kelden Amadiro and Levular Mandamus. After Giskard's deactivation, D.G. ensured that Gladia and the newly empowered Daneel returned to Aurora to secure the future of Earth's colonization. His actions throughout the crisis were instrumental in thwarting the plot to destroy Earth and in strengthening the position of the Settler worlds.
