Depsec, formally the Department of Security, is the primary intelligence and security agency of the planetary government of Sark.
A powerful and secretive organization, Depsec is responsible for internal security matters, including the investigation of threats to the Sarkite state. Its purview extends to incidents on Sark itself and its subject world, Florina. The department operates with high-level authority, as demonstrated when it issued a secret, urgent directive to Captain Racety of the Endeavor, ordering him to secure the stowaways Rik and Valona March for direct delivery to Depsec, bypassing standard judicial channels. The message explicitly warned that one of the individuals might claim to be a Spatio-analyst, indicating Depsec was already aware of and actively managing the situation surrounding the missing analyst. The agency's involvement signified that the case was considered a matter of utmost state security, beyond the scope of ordinary law enforcement.
