Eos is a location in Isaac Asimov's Robot series.
About Eos[]
Eos is the capital city and primary administrative center of the planet Aurora.
Eos is the largest city on Aurora and, by extension, the largest in all the Spacer worlds, with a population of twenty thousand human inhabitants. Despite this distinction, its structure is vastly different from the vast, enclosed Cities of Earth. Eos is a sprawling, open-air metropolis characterized by private estates, parks, and low-lying green-colored buildings that blend into the landscape. It serves as the seat of the Auroran World Legislature, with the President of the Assembly maintaining an estate within its bounds.
The city is the center of robotic science on Aurora, housing the Robotics Institute of Aurora, a fortified and politically autonomous complex that contains administrative centers, laboratories, libraries, and residential establishments for its members. Transportation within Eos includes the use of air-mobiles, magnetic sub-mobiles, and personal ground-gliders for shorter distances, while trimensional viewing (TVC) is the primary method of communication and interaction, reflecting the Auroran preference for privacy and limited physical contact.
The city's name, meaning "Dawn" in Greek, symbolically ties it to the planet Aurora, the "World of the Dawn."
