Eskel Gorov a Foundation agent imprisoned on Askone.

About Eskel[]

Eskel Gorov was a Merchant Trader operating for the Foundation during its commercial expansion phase. His mission was to infiltrate the isolated and technologically restrictive markets on the periphery of the galaxy. Traders like Gorove the vanguard of the Foundation's second wave of expansion, following the era of religious control, and their primary tool was economic influence rather than dogma.

Gorov's actions directly triggered a significant diplomatic incident between the Foundation and the planetAskone. Askone was governed by a theocratic oligarchy led by a Grand Master and the Five Tribes, whose state religion forbade all advanced technology, particularly nuclear devices, viewing them as evil sorcery.

Ignoring or underestimating the severity of these religious laws, Gorov discovered possessing or attempting to sell Foundation technology powered by nuclear energy. The Askonese authorities arrested him for this violation. The Grand Master, upholding the planet's strict doctrines, found Gorovlty and sentenced him to death.

His imprisonment and death sentence became a critical problem for the Foundation. It represented not only the potential loss of a trader but a major setback in their economic penetration of the region. If Askone could defy the Foundation so openly, other worlds might follow.

The Foundation dispatched a more experienced trader, Limmar Ponyets, to resolve the crisis. Ponyets understood that the Grand Master was unyielding in his faith. Instead, he directed his efforts at corrupting the Five Tribes, the ruling council, by demonstrating a device that transmuted iron into gold. Seduced by greed, the Five Tribes pressured the Grand Master to capitulate. Eskel Gorov was subsequently released, and the Foundation secured exclusive trading rights on Askone, marking a pivotal victory for economic imperialism over theocratic resistance.
