Gillbret oth Hinriad is a character from the Isaac Asimov's Empire series.
About Gillbret[]
Gillbret oth Hinriad, often called Gil, was the cousin of Hinrik V, the Director of Rhodia. He was a member of the ruling Hinriad Dynasty and, by right of birth, was the legitimate heir to the title. However, the Tyranni occupiers intervened to bypass him, considering the more pliable Hinrik V a safer puppet. Gillbret never recovered from this humiliation and nurtured an intense hatred for the Tyranni, whom he viewed as a retrograde force stifling progress.
A man of keen scientific intellect, Gillbret's work yielded practical inventions, like a device to detect Tyranni spy rays. However, his life's obsession was his quixotic quest to rediscover the "Rebellion World," a mythical planet dedicated to overthrowing the Tyranni, which he had once found by chance. This fixation gradually consumed him, leading to madness. His tragic figure became a legend on Rhodia, inspiring poems and plays. Despite his instability, it was his obsession that ultimately led him, his niece Artemisia, and Biron Farrill to flee Rhodia and trigger the successful rebellion.
