Gleb Andorin is a character in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.

About Gleb[]

Gleb Andorin is a Wyan aristocrat and a key conspirator in the Joranumite plot to assassinate Hari Seldon. A cynical and ambitious nobleman from the Wye Sector, Andorin was a descendant of its former Mayors and harbored dynastic aspirations for the Imperial throne. He was a central figure in the revived Joranumite movement led by Gambol Deen Namarti, though he privately held Namarti in contempt, viewing him as a useful but fanatical and irrational tool. Andorin's primary motivation was not the populist ideals of Joranum but the restoration of his own family's power; he agreed to the conspiracy on the condition that he would be placed on the throne after its success.

His most significant contribution to the plot was the recruitment of the asset "Planchet." Andorin was alerted to the young man by his sometime-lover, Manella Dubanqua, who noted Planchet's idealistic demeanor and suggested he would be easily manipulated. Andorin, unaware that Planchet was actually Raych Seldon undercover, believed he had found the perfect unwitting assassin. He supervised Raych's induction into the conspiracy and, when Raych began to resist, revealed that he had been systematically drugging him with a psychotropic chemical that induced a state of hopelessness and compliance, ensuring he would follow orders.

Andorin's role in the final assassination attempt was to infiltrate the Imperial Palace grounds disguised as a gardener alongside the drugged Raych. The plan was for Raych to kill First Minister Hari Seldon during a welcoming ceremony, after which Andorin would immediately kill Raych to silence him, making the event appear as a tragic murder-suicide within the Seldon family. However, during the attempt, Andorin was shot and killed by Manella Dubanqua, who was revealed to be an agent of the Security Department. His death and the ensuing panic directly led to the accidental killing of Emperor Cleon I by the Chief Gardener, Mandell Gruber, resulting in the complete collapse of the Joranumite conspiracy.
