Asimov

Hirm Gordell is a character from the Isaac Asimov's Empire series.

About Hirm[]

Hirm Gordell was the captain of a commercial spaceliner operating between Earth and the Nebular Kingdoms. A stocky man with steel-gray hair and a carefully tended mustache, he presented himself as polite and reasonable. His role in events began when he approached passenger Biron Farrill (traveling under the alias Biron Malaine) and informed him that he needed to vacate his originally booked stateroom (Room 140-D).

Gordell explained that the move was necessary to accommodate a very important person with a heart condition who required a stateroom closer to the ship's center of gravity. As compensation, he assigned Farrill a more luxurious, first-class stateroom with a private bathroom and extended a personal invitation for him to dine at the captain's table. Gordell's demeanor throughout the interaction was courteous and seemingly apologetic.

However, this action was not his own initiative. Gordell was following orders given by another passenger aboard the ship: Sander Jonti, the Autarch of Lingane, who was traveling under an assumed identity. The move was a calculated part of Jonti's complex conspiracy to manipulate Farrill.
