The Imperial Gardens are a vast, open-air park within the grounds of the Imperial Palace on Trantor. A rare uncapped area on the domed planet, the Gardens are meticulously maintained and feature a natural environment with grass, trees, and walking paths. It is here that Emperor Cleon I regularly walked and conversed with his First Ministers, Eto Demerzel and Hari Seldon. The Gardens were the setting of a pivotal event where Seldon's life was saved from an assassin by the intervention of Dors Venabili and a gardener named Mandell Gruber, who rushed to aid them with a rake. This act earned Gruber Seldon's lasting friendship and a later promotion to Chief Gardener by Cleon himself, who later killed him.
