Las Zenow is a character in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.
About Las[]
Las Zenow served as Chief Librarian of the Imperial Library of Trantor during the final years of the Galactic Empire. As head of the galaxy's greatest repository of knowledge, he maintained complete authority over the Library's vast archives and collections. Zenow was known for his meticulous nature, encyclopedic knowledge, and deep commitment to preserving galactic knowledge.
His most significant contribution came when Hari Seldon approached him for assistance with what would become the Encyclopedia Galactica project. Zenow authorized Seldon's team to use the Library's resources and assigned librarians to assist their research. When Seldon needed to find a suitable planet for his encyclopedia project, Zenow personally supervised the search through the Library's astronomical records. After extensive research, he identified Terminus, a planet at the Galactic periphery, poor in resources and unoccupied for centuries. This discovery proved crucial to Seldon's ability to persuade the Commission of Public Safety to establish the Foundation project on Terminus.
Throughout their interactions, Zenow remained completely unaware of Seldon's psychohistorical plans, genuinely believing he was supporting a purely scholarly endeavor. He took great pride in the Library's role in preserving galactic knowledge and saw the encyclopedia project as a natural extension of this mission.
