Markis Genro is a character in Isaac Asimov's Empire series.
About Genro[]
Markis Genro is a skilled yachtsman and a high-ranking agent for the Trantorian Empire's Department of Security (Depsec), operating undercover on the planet Sark. A cool and calculating operative,
Genro presented himself publicly as a wealthy sportsman critical of over-automated spacecraft. He used this cover to move freely through Sark's spaceports. He was specifically tasked with intercepting the fugitive Townman, Myrlyn Terens, who had murdered Squire Aistare Deamone and stolen his identity. Genro masterminded a plan to capture Terens alive and deliver him to Trantor without alerting the Sarkite authorities. He deliberately arranged for lax security at the spaceport to avoid raising Trantor's suspicions and personally posed as a potential yacht buyer to board Terens's ship.
Once aboard, he expertly tested Terens's imposture with subtle traps, confirming his identity before disarming the exhausted Townman. Genro then revealed his own role as a Trantorian agent, explaining that he had convinced his superiors he could handle the capture single-handedly. He piloted the yacht to Sark, where he instructed Terens to stun him with a neuronic whip to maintain his cover story of being overpowered, thus ensuring Terens's safe passage to the Trantorian Embassy while protecting his own position within Depsec.
