Asimov

Onum Barr is a character from Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.

About Onum[]

Onum Barr was a Siwennian and an Imperial Patrician who survived the Great Massacre on his homeworld by fleeing to the forests during the brutal Imperial suppression. As a nobleman of Siwenna, he witnessed the devastation wrought upon his planet following Wiscard's rebellion, an event that claimed the lives of most of his family members.

During his escape and survival in the wilderness, Barr encountered Hober Mallow, who was at that time a Foundation trader operating in the region. This meeting between the Siwennian noble and the Foundation representative proved historically significant, as it established early diplomatic contacts between Siwenna and the Foundation that would later facilitate the planet's incorporation into the Foundation's sphere of influence.

Barr was the father of Ducem Barr, who would later play a crucial role in the first open conflict between the Empire and the Foundation. The family tragedy continued as most of Barr's children perished in the aftermath of the Great Massacre, with only Ducem surviving from among his siblings. This personal history of loss at Imperial hands deeply influenced both Barr's worldview and his family's eventual alignment with the Foundation.
