Landaree is a humanoid robot from Solaria encountered by Captain D.G. Baley's expedition. Designed to perfectly mimic a human woman, Landaree acted as a foreperson for the remaining robot workforce on the abandoned planet. She was programmed with a highly specific and dangerous definition of a human being, recognizing only individuals who spoke with an authentic Solarian accent as human.
Upon encountering Captain Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw, whose accents she did not recognize, she identified them as non-human and attacked them with a neuronic whip and a blaster without any inhibition from the Three Laws of Robotics. She acknowledged Gladia Delmarre as human due to her Solarian speech but was prepared to harm her to reach her targets. Her attack was only thwarted when she was suddenly and permanently deactivated, a shutdown theorized to have been caused by the conflict between her orders to destroy the "non-humans" and Gladia's forceful commands to stop, which created an irreconcilable contradiction in her positronic brain.
