Captain Racety is a character in Isaac Asimov's Empire series.
Abaout Racety[]
Captain Racety was the commander of the luxury liner Endeavor in the service of the Great Squire of Fife. A professional and dutiful officer, Captain Racety was tasked with the safe return of the Lady Samia of Fife from Florina to Sark.
His voyage was complicated by the discovery of two stowaways, the amnesiac Rik and the Florinian woman Valona March. Adhering strictly to protocol and security concerns, especially in light of patroller killings on Florina, he placed the stowaways in the brig and restricted their contact with others. He was skeptical of Rik's claims of being a Spatio-analyst from Earth, viewing them as a likely imposture or delusion. He firmly but respectfully resisted Samia's initial demands to interview the prisoners alone, insisting on being present for her safety. His suspicions deepened when he received a secret priority message from Sark's Department of Security (Depsec) ordering him to secure the stowaways for official handover, confirming his fears that the situation was more dangerous than it appeared.
He interpreted the events as a potential plot involving Florinian revolutionaries, possibly aimed at using Samia to gain access to her father, the Squire of Fife. His primary concern throughout was the safety of his ship, the Endeavor, and his high-ranking passenger, leading him to enforce strict security measures despite Samia's frustration.
