Rial Nevas is a character in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.
About Nevas[]
Rial Nevas is a young Trantorian who acted as a false witness in the assault trial of Hari Seldon. A fourteen-year-old resident of Trantor, Rial Nevas was initially confronted by Hari Seldon for littering just moments before Seldon and Stettin Palver were assaulted by a gang. Seeking revenge for the reprimand, Nevas later agreed to falsely testify under oath that he had witnessed an unprovoked attack by Seldon and Palver. His fabricated story began to unravel under cross-examination by Magistrate Tejan Popjens Lih. Under simultaneous and powerful mentalic pressure from both Seldon's granddaughter, Wanda, and Stettin Palver, Nevas experienced an overwhelming compulsion to tell the truth. This psychological pressure caused him to break down in court, recant his testimony, and confess, a critical moment that led to the dismissal of all charges against Seldon and Palver.
