Shelton is a character of Isaac Asimov's science-fiction short story "Trends".
About Shelton[]
Shelton is a coworker of Clifford McKenny and a follower of Otis Eldredge who sabotages the first rocket launch.
Shelton acts on behalf of Eldredge’s anti-scientific movement, secretly sabotaging Prometheus on the day of its scheduled launch in 1973. The resulting explosion kills 28 members of the hostile crowd. Shelton's actions heighten the danger to Harman, prompting McKenny to smuggle him from the hospital and forcing Harman to rebuild and relaunch the project in secret. Shelton’s sabotage is a pivotal event, creating the central conflict that drives Harman's later successful efforts with New Prometheus.
