Asimov

Shoree-Han is a character from the licensed expanded universe of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.

About Shoree-Han[]

The Empress Shoree-Han reigned during a period of significant social stagnation in the Galactic Empire around 3,000 G.E. Her rule is notable for a bold but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to reform the increasingly rigid structure of imperial society. With the covert support of Calvinian robots, humanoid robots who had been secretly guiding and protecting humanity for millennia, Shoree-Han sought to implement progressive reforms aimed at modernizing the Empire's social and temporal systems. Her most ambitious proposal was the introduction of a new calendar system designed to break from traditional dating conventions and symbolize a new era of progress.

Despite her authority and the sophisticated support of the robots, Shoree-Han's efforts met with fierce resistance from the entrenched imperial bureaucracy and conservative factions within the nobility. The proposed calendar reform and attempts to reduce social rigidity failed to gain traction, ultimately being rejected by the very institutions they were meant to revitalize. Her reign represents one of the earliest documented instances of the Empire's growing resistance to change and innovation, a characteristic that would become increasingly pronounced throughout its history. The failure of her reforms also illustrates the limitations of even robotic guidance in overcoming the inertial weight of imperial tradition and bureaucracy.
