The Nova crisis was scientific emergency event in Isaac Asimov's Empire series.
About the Nova crisis[]
The Nova Crisis was a major political and scientific emergency that revolved around the threat of the imminent destruction of the planet Florina.
The crisis began when Rik, a Spatio-analyst, discovered that Florina's sun was in a pre-nova state due to its intersection with a carbon current in space, a discovery that would have caused panic and destroyed the galactic kyrt trade if made public. To prevent this, an agent of the Sarkite government psycho-probed the analyst, Rik, erasing his memory and leaving him on Florina. The crisis was ignited a year later when Rik's memories began to return, leading him, his protector Valona March, and the Townman Myrlyn Terens to flee to Sark. The subsequent confrontation between the Great Squires of Sark and the Trantorian Ambassador, Ludigan Abel, forced the revelation of the truth. The crisis was resolved when Trantor brokered a deal, using the impending development of synthetic kyrt as leverage, to begin the evacuation of Florina's entire population, thereby ending Sark's economic monopoly and significantly increasing Trantor's political influence in the region.
