Widemos is a planet from the Isaac Asimov's Empire series.
About Widemos[]
Widemos was an inhabited planet within the region of space known as the Nebular Kingdoms. Its economy and society were primarily agrarian, centered around large-scale ranching operations. The planet's most prominent title was that of the Rancher of Widemos, a position of nobility that implied ownership and governance over extensive tracts of land dedicated to this industry.
The planet's history is defined by its resistance to the expanding Tyranni Empire. The Rancher of Widemos, Biron Farrell's father, was a prominent figure who opposed Tyranni domination. His defiance made him a target for the ruthless regime. The Tyranni orchestrated his downfall by fabricating charges of treason, which led to his arrest, execution, and the attainder of his title and holdings.
The punishment extended beyond the individual; the planet itself suffered under Tyranni retribution. Widemos was subjected to severe reprisals, effectively ruining its economy and social structure as a warning to other worlds in the Nebular Kingdoms that might consider rebellion. This act of tyranny against Widemos and its Rancher served as the primary catalyst for his son, Biron Farrill, to seek justice and become involved in the nascent rebellion against the empire.
