Wyan Dynasty is a ruling family from the expanded universe of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.
About the Dynasty[]
The Wyan Dynasty ruled the Galactic Empire during the late Golden Age, specifically from approximately the 11,500s to 11,800s GE. This period represented one of the final flourishing eras of imperial grandeur before the gradual decline that would characterize the later centuries of the Empire. The dynasty maintained power through multiple generations, overseeing a period of relative stability and continued architectural ambition.
The final emperor of the Wyan line was a boy-emperor whose name has been lost to historical records, though his legacy remains marked by excessive ambition and poor judgment. This young ruler, preceding Agis VI, ordered the demolition of the magnificent Mountain of Majesty, an iconic structure that had stood for millennia as one of Trantor's most impressive architectural achievements. His intention was to replace it with an even more grandiose project that he believed would surpass all previous imperial constructions.
Following the dynasty's fall from imperial power, the Wyan lineage maintained significant political influence through their descendants who became the hereditary Mayors of Wye Sector, one of Trantor's most powerful and influential sectors. This transition from imperial to regional power demonstrates the complex political dynamics of Trantorian society, where former ruling families often maintained substantial local authority long after their direct rule of the empire ended. The Wye sector itself would later play crucial roles in imperial politics, particularly during the events surrounding Hari Seldon's era and the fall of the Galactic Empire.
